FAQs Gospelworkshop

Are there any leisure activities?  
Yes, there are jam sessions, a karaoke evening and a musical directors‘ concert (Dirk Raufeisen and Tommie Harris). These are all free of charge.
The locations of the workshops also offer many leisure activities, e.g. hiking or boat trips.   

Do I have to be a member of a choir to participate?  
No.  

Do I have to be able to read music?  
No. During the week, the rehearsed pieces will be recorded in the individual registers (soprano, alto,  tenor and bass) directly on site and made available online to all participants.  

Is there a partner or group discount?   
The following discount structure is available for the workshops: 

  • Life partner discount = 10%. 
  • We offer a discount of CHF 90.00 for participation in a 2nd gospel workshop in the same calander year. Standard conditions apply. 
  • Referral discount: a CHF 90.00 discount is offered for the referral of new workshop participants who join us for the first time. The discount is cumulative per referral and is only granted for the same workshop. The discount will be deducted from the course costs of this workshop. Any surplus in favour of the referring participant will be paid out at the opening aperitif. 

Is there an early bird discount?  
Yes, there is an early bird discount of CHF 30.00. 

Do I have to stay overnight in a hotel?  
No, but our partner hotels offer attractive conditions for participants.  

Is catering included in the workshop price?  
The opening and closing aperitifs are included in the workshop price, otherwise catering is the responsibility of the individual participants. 

What is included in the workshop price?  
Participation in all rehearsals, participation in the final concert, access to the online resources, the opening and closing aperitifs, evening jam sessions, the karaoke evening and the musical directors‘ concert (Dirk Raufeisen and Tommie Harris).  

How many participants are there?  
Usually between 30-60 people take part in the workshops.  

Can or must I sing solo? 
No, participants don’t perform as soloists.  

Who organises the workshop?  
The leadership team consists of Dirk Raufeisen (musical direction), Tommie Harris (lead vocal, gospel singing) and Walter Däppen (administrative direction).

Do I have to participate the whole week?   
Yes, a successful final concert is only possible if all participants take part in all rehearsals.    

How many rehearsals are there?   
Monday to Thursday twice a day (mornings and afternoons).   
The main rehearsal for the concert is on Friday morning.   

Do I have to be able to play an instrument?   
No.  

Are there any spectators at the rehearsals?  
Usually not, but it could be that members of the wider organisation or the press are present, e.g. to take photos.   

Is there a concert?   
Yes, there is a closing concert on the Friday at every workshop, so that the pieces practiced during the workshops can be performed in front of an audience.

Will the closing concert be recorded? 
Yes, recordings of the concert will be made available to the participants online for download.

Can I participate in more than one workshop?  
Yes, we offer a discount of CHF 90.00 for participation in a 2nd gospel workshop in the same calander year. Standard conditions apply. 

Is it worthwhile participating in several workshops?  
Yes, participation in several workshops helps consolidate gospel music singing techniques. This makes the song content even more present and emotional. 

Does the repertoire vary from workshop to workshop?  
The title selection is determined annually. The new programme always begins with the gospel workshop in Lenk (July).

Do I need to prepare for the workshop?  
No.  

Are there online resources?  
Yes! During the week the pieces rehearsed will be recorded directly on site in the individual registers (soprano, alto, tenor and bass) and made available online to all participants. 
Sheet music and texts are available online, in addition to the printed version.   
These resources will remain accessible for a certain period of time after the workshop.   

Is there an exam?  
No. 

Will I receive confirmation of participation?  
Yes, all participants receive a certificate of participation at the final aperitif. 

Can I have private lessons? 
Individual lessons are not included in the workshop.   

Do I have to bring anything special?  
Yes, a good mood and enthusiasm 😉    

Do I have to belong to a denomination?  
Membership in a church or denomination is not necessary for participation in the workshop. Gospel also stands for „togetherness“ and should give everyone the opportunity to live, experience and express their own ideas of faith. The workshop therefore also offers space for an exchange of ideas on these issues.
